Dillon Bennett is an artist and printmaker based in Seattle, Washington. He works in a diverse range of mediums, including wood engraving, etching, aquatint, and stone lithography. His practice is characterized by finely detailed engravings, a high level of craftsmanship, and frequent use of flora and fauna as imagery. Heavily inspired by nature and all its complexities, his work invites the viewer to linger on every detail, and fully immerse themselves in each piece.
Dillon’s studio practice has evolved from a singular focus on relief printing and engraving, to include a wider scope of processes and materials. The physicality of printmaking in particular has always been an important factor in his work. For engraving, each image is carved by hand, directly into the wood, before being inked and used to make a single print. Each print, in turn, is a direct impression of the carving, every tool mark visible and important. The physical manipulation of the materials allows the artist to interact with imagery and concepts in new and exciting ways, continually informing the end result. This interplay between materials, medium, technique, and subject matter, drives him to continually explore new work and new ways of interacting with the natural world. Dillon has shown work locally in various group shows in the Seattle area, as well as solo exhibitions during the Beacon Hill and Ballard Artwalks. His work has been shown nationally as part of the Wood Engravers Network 4th Triennial Exhibition and Block & Burin, a biannual publication from WEN. He is an active member of the Seattle Print Arts and frequently contributes to shows and print exchanges. |
